CUBITAL TUNNEL RELEASE

During a cubital tunnel release, the ulnar nerve is decompressed at the elbow. Cubital tunnel release is a safe, reliable procedure that alleviates burning hand pain/numbness and stops the progression of the disease. This procedure usually requires IV anesthesia.

Typically a 3 inch incision is made on the inside of the elbow. The procedure takes about 30 minutes and is closed with absorbable sutures. A soft dressing is placed over the elbow. This can be removed after 3 days and the wound can be covered with an ace wrap until follow up.

Sometimes after the nerve is decompressed, the nerve becomes unstable. This may require a transposition which will prolong the rehab.
