Biceps tendon injuries usually occur after lifting heavy objects and present with pain and swelling at the front of the elbow. Sometimes a pop can be heard and bruising and pain occurs at the elbow.

An MRI is usually ordered to confirm the diagnosis and severity of the tear. High grade partial tears and complete tears are typically treated with surgery while low grade tears can be treated conservatively.
